Cohen 1939 Controls: Keys, Throws, Executions, Skills
Cohen 1939 teaches its controls through short on-screen prompts during the first chapters. The list below is taken from those prompts as they appear in recorded playthroughs of the opening levels, so it uses the game’s own wording where possible.
Keyboard and mouse
These are the keys the game’s prompts name. Movement and basic firing are not spelled out in the recordings, so they are left off rather than guessed.
| Action | Key | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Throw | Right click | Throws what you are holding. Daggers kill; an empty gun stuns |
| Aim lock | Middle mouse button | Locks your crosshair onto an enemy |
| Execute | Space | Finishes a downed or stunned enemy |
| Skill | Shift | The current character’s skill (see below) |
Space is also the key that clears the umbrella tutorial when the third drunk keeps getting up: knock him down and execute him. See bugs and fixes.
Shift, by character
- Elisa Cohen: hold Shift to release the raven. While it is in flight, left-click an enemy to disrupt it.
- Sevinda: press Shift to enter her flow state, which slows time; press Shift again to leave it.
- Richard Cohen: Shift is the slide in the demo footage.
- The fourth killer: rage, not yet shown in any recording we could check.
More on each in the four killers.
Rules the prompts spell out
- “Bullets and arrows can penetrate the glass in the environment. Enemies can also spot you through glass.”
- “All firearms except silenced pistols produce audible gunfire, drawing enemy attention.”
- The sniper rifle’s prompt says its shots go through doors and can hit several enemies in a line.
Controller
Steam lists Partial Controller Support. A player who tried both says an Xbox controller was not recognised in the old demo but works in the full game. Some tutorial prompts still only show keyboard and mouse keys, and one Chinese review found controller aiming weaker than mouse aiming in later, crowded levels. A recorded demo walkthrough was played on an Xbox controller from start to finish.
Settings
A player recording the demo pointed out that the options only covered language and music, with no graphics settings. Whether the full game added graphics options has not been confirmed. A Steam forum post also asks for rebindable keys; there is no confirmation yet that keys can be remapped.
