Cohen 1939 S Rank Guide: Combos, Score and Badges

Cohen 1939 is built to be replayed for score. Every level ends with a grade, every grade pays badges, and both difficulty modes have online leaderboards. This page covers what feeds the grade, based on the official screenshots, the Steam achievement list and launch-week player reports.

What the grade is made of

  • Kill points. Each kill pops a score number (+600 is common in official screenshots, with bigger numbers on chained kills).
  • The combo multiplier. Kills in quick succession build a multiplier shown top left: x2, x4 and x9 all appear in official screenshots. Let the chain drop and it resets.
  • Speed. Players report that clear time feeds the grade, and one level in the official screenshots runs a visible countdown (00:55).
  • Style. Reviewers mention the grade rewards how you clear a room, not just that you did.

Deaths send you back to a checkpoint. Players chasing S ranks replay a level until they know it, which a Chinese reviewer sums up as memorising the level.

How to get an S rank

  1. Learn the level once. Your first clear is for finding enemy positions and pickups.
  2. Route for chains, not safety. Plan an order where every kill is a step or a throw away from the next one.
  3. Open with a throw or a slide. The first kill starts the chain; Richard’s slide is built for this.
  4. Use loud guns on purpose. Gunfire pulls enemies towards you, which brings the next kill to you instead of making you walk to it.
  5. Do not stop to loot. Grab weapons in the flow of the chain.
  6. Replay early levels for badges. Upgrades and better starting weapons make every later S rank easier.

Difficulty modes and leaderboards

Players describe two modes: a story difficulty and a harder challenge difficulty, both with their own leaderboards. The achievement Kohen’s Secrets asks you to finish every level on Normal. In challenge runs you can choose your character; in the story you cannot.

A YouTube player has posted runs ranked 7th and 2nd in the world with S+ grades, so S+ exists above S.
